Matchups and Mismatches

When we look at matchups by unit and compare the teams playing a particular game, there are intriguing matchups and mismatches each week. The Total Points PDF has this for each game in the NFL in a given week.

You can also find much of this information at the SIS DataHub Pro.

Here are some things we noticed:

(All references to rankings are in the context of Total Points Per Play)

* A key matchup to watch for the Eagles-Packers game is in the trenches. The Eagles rank 5th in pass blocking while the Packers rank 6th in pass rush.

* On the other end of the spectrum, will be interesting to see which team wins out between the Saints’ pass blocking and the Panthers’ pass rush - both ranked last.

* The Giants will try to get home with their 7th-ranked pass rush against the Bears and their top three passing attack.

* The Chargers will look to get their 4th-ranked rushing attack going against the Steelers and their 26th-ranked run defense.
