Note for those downloading the PDFs: Patrick Mekari's position is incorrectly in the PDF, which we will be able to adjust in future weeks. Rams T Alaric Jackson should rank No. 5 at OT this week.

Welcome to this week’s Statpack. It’s our weekly look at leaderboards for our all-encompassing player value stat, Total Points, and some the stats that our operations team charts throughout the season. Note: These rankings are based on unrounded totals which virtually eliminates ties between players or teams.

* The Colts are listed No. 1 overall here, but the Bills and Broncos are basically even with them, just a fraction of a point behind (all this information is available in the PDFs above).

* The Bills are the only team with a top-5 ranked Offense and a top-5 ranked Defense, though the Jaguars (No. 6 on offense, No. 5 on defense) and 49ers (No. 3 on offense, No. 6 on defense) are close.

* The teams with the biggest contrast between their Offense and Defense rankings are the Browns (No. 30 on Offense, No. 1 on Defense) and the Dolphins (No. 1 on Offense, No. 30 on Defense). The Browns rank No. 24 overall. The Dolphins rank No. 14. Honorable mention to the Vikings, who are No. 25 on Offense and No. 2 on Defense.

* The Eagles are 4-0 but come up No. 12 overall in our team rankings due to their ranking No. 26 on offense.

* The Texans are 1-3 but don’t blame C.J. Stroud, who ranks No. 3 among quarterbacks.

* The gap between Puka Nacua and the next-closest wide receiver is massive. Nacua has a 13-point edge (28-15) on Ricky Pearsall and DK Metcalf. At almost every other position group, the gap between No. 1 and No. 2 is 3 points or fewer, the exception being cornerback where Isaiah Rodgers’ monster game in Week 3 has him 8 points ahead of Jourdan Lewis and Jamel Dean.

Sam Darnold (8-of-13, 62%), Stafford (9-of-15, 60%), and Lamar Jackson (8-of-14, 57%) are the three quarterbacks who have thrown at least 10 such passes and completed 60% of them.

* Josh Jacobs ranks 4th with 229 rushing yards after contact though that tells only part of the story. Jacobs has been hit at or behind the line of scrimmage 48 times this season, easily the most in the NFL. He’s rushed for 266 yards in total, 86% coming after contact.

Matchups and Mismatches

When we look at matchups by unit and compare the teams playing a particular game, there are intriguing matchups and mismatches each week. The Total Points PDF has this for each game in the NFL in a given week.

You can also find much of this information at the SIS DataHub Pro.

Here are some things we noticed:

(All references to rankings are in the context of Total Points Per Play)

* Daniel Jones and the Colts pass game are positioned for what could be another big day. The Raiders’ Pass Rush ranks No. 31; their pass coverage ranks No. 28.

* It could also be a big day for Omarion Hampton and the Chargers rushing attack. The Commanders rank No. 26 in Run Defense. Hampton had 12 rushes for 128 yards in Week 4.

* Jayden Daniels and Patrick Mahomes both face Top 5 Pass Coverage units this week. The aforementioned Chargers have the No. 5 such defense so far this season. The Chiefs face the Jaguars, who rank No. 3.

* The Browns and Vikings are the top two teams in our overall defense ranking and they’ll go head-to-head this week. The Browns have the No. 1 Run Defense and the No. 2 Pass Rush but they’ll have to contend with a Vikings team that ranks No. 1 in Blocking.

The Vikings’ defense ranks No. 1 in Pass Coverage and No. 6, in Pass Rush, which will be a major challenge for Dillon Gabriel in his first start. The Browns rank No. 26 in Blocking overall, No. 31 in protecting the quarterback.

* Similarly, the Giants pass rush has a mismatch with its opponent. The Saints rank No. 31 in Blocking, last in the NFL in Pass Blocking. The Giants’ Pass Rush ranks No. 4.
