Note: These rankings are based on unrounded totals which virtually eliminates ties between players or teams
* The Colts are our No. 1 overall team because they have the No. 2 Passing, No. 2 Rushing, No. 3 Rushing defense, and No. 5 Pass Coverage groups (all this information is available in the PDFs above)
* The bottom 5 offenses right now are the Browns, Saints, Jets, Bengals, and Titans. The Saints are hurt by their receivers ranking No. 31 overall and their blocking ranking No. 32.
* The Browns are the No. 1 ranked defense because their run defense ranks No. 1 and their pass rush ranks No. 2. The Vikings don’t rank in the Top 10 in Run Defense or Pass Rush, but their Pass Coverage ranks No. 1 , which vaults them to No. 2 overall.
* Raise your hand if you had Daniel Jones and Spencer Rattler as the top two quarterbacks in Total Points through the first three weeks of the season!
* You might notice that Isaiah Rodgers is the runaway leader in Total Points among cornerbacks. That’s what returning an interception 87 yards and forcing two fumbles in a game will do for your stats.
* If you want to see the Total Points leaders among offensive linemen, defensive tackles, linebackers, kickers, and punters, download the PDF atop the document.

* Russell Wilson leads the NFL with 8 completions on passes thrown at least 20 yards downfield, but given that he’s been benched, we suspect someone else will be leading in this stat next week.
* Jonathan Taylor has established himself as the runaway leader in yards after contact after another big game in Week 3. He also had 18 broken/missed tackles, which leads the NFL as well.
* Nik Bonitto and Micah Parsons co-lead in pressures with 18. Bonitto continues to exceed expectations each week. Through two weeks he was 5.5 pressures above expectation (pressures generated beyond an expectation determined by alignment and situation). Through three weeks, he’s 9.9 pressures above expectation.
* We’ve added two more stats to the list of what’s included in the document. One is completion percentage allowed by cornerbacks (current leaders Jaycee Horn and Carrington Valentine have allowed 2 completions on 11 targets). The other, also for cornerbacks, is yardage per coverage snap, which Tremon Smith and DaRon Bland currently lead in.
Matchups and Mismatches
When we look at matchups by unit and compare the teams playing a particular game, there are intriguing matchups and mismatches each week. The Total Points PDF has this for each game in the NFL in a given week.
You can also find much of this information at the SIS DataHubPro.
Here are some things we noticed:
(All references to rankings are in the context of Total Points Per Play)
* You knew this already, but Chargers-Giants can be a major mismatch. Most notably the No. 1 Chargers Receiving group is going up against a Pass Coverage ranked No. 30. The one hope for the Giants is that their Pass Rush ranks No. 7 and it is going up against a No. 31 ranked blocking unit.
* The Browns-Lions will be an interesting one in whether or not the Browns No. 1 Pass Rush can slow down Jared Gofff and Detroit’s No. 3 ranked Passing.
* The 49ers-Jaguars game should be a good one in this regard. The 49ers are ranked No. 2 in Pass Coverage. The Jaguars are ranked No. 3 and will be tested by the the 49ers early-season excellence. Meanwhile the Jets-Dolphins game pits the two worst teams in Pass Coverage against each other.
* On Monday Night Football there’s a potential mismatch. The Broncos rank No. 3 in Rushing so far. The Bengals Run Defense ranks No. 31.
* The Vikings rank No. 2 in both receiving and blocking. They’re going up against a Bengals team that thus far ranks 28th in pass rush, and 31st in pass coverage (not to mention 32nd in run defense).
