* The 3rd-ranked Broncos have taken over the top spot in the AFC Playoff picture after knocking off the Packers this past Sunday. Their defense has been a major factor in their ascension with their league-leading 58 sacks. Bo Nix also only trails Patrick Mahomes in Total Points among quarterbacks by a half-point.

* Myles Garrett is going to set the sack record this year, but still trails Will Anderson Jr. in Total Points. Anderson is getting pressure 22.2% of the time, while Garrett is getting there slightly less at 20.5%.

Matchups and Mismatches

When we look at matchups by unit and compare the teams playing a particular game, there are intriguing matchups and mismatches each week. The Total Points PDF has this for each game in the NFL in a given week.

You can also find much of this information at the SIS DataHub Pro.

Here are some things we noticed:

(All references to rankings are in the context of Total Points Per Play)

* With high winds expected in Seattle, look for the run games to be a focal point in the Rams and Seahawks matchup. The Rams’ top-ranked run blocking unit will face the Seahawks’ 4th-ranked run defense, while the Seahawks last-ranked run blocking will try to get more of a push against the Rams 19th-ranked run defense.

* Jordan Love and the Packers’ 8th-ranked passing attack walk into Soldier Field and will face the Bears’ 6th-ranked pass coverage unit. Love ranks 5th in our Independent Quarterback Rating (IQR) at 106.6 as well.

* The Buccaneers’ 2nd-ranked rushing attack should be able to attack the Panthers’ 31st-ranked run defense. The Panthers have missed 33 tackles on run defense, which is T-6th worst in the league, while the Bucs are 7th in broken and missed tackle rate per attempt at 17.3%.

* The Broncos’ No. 1-ranked passing attack square off with the Jaguars’ No. 1-ranked pass coverage unit. The Jaguars are 2nd with 18 interceptions and 2nd in EPA per pass allowed at -0.11.
